Impressions: Kaguya-Sama Love is War Episode 2

Conquer.png

I forgot to say this in my previous episode’s post but the opening song feels VERY retro! I feel like I’m watching a 90s series. It’s a fun song though so I don’t mind listening to it… over and over again.

There’s nothing much to say about this episode. It still uses the same formula as the previous one, with the whole episode being divided into three segments. So in these two episodes, we managed to cover 6 chapters of the manga! Well not exactly. The anime did skip quite a few chapters of the manga but it mainly skipped the skits that make zero progress to the story. In this episode, there is at least some progress. For one, more characters are introduced and I tell you, the new ‘Kabe-DOWN’ couple is hilarious from start to finish. I’d love to see them more.

This Art Club Has a Problem Episode 1: The First Joke, Hairstyle and Hair Colour

cutesy usami

Yomu started a WordPress collaboration project about reviewing every episode of an anime called ‘This Art Club Has a Problem’. The twist here is that we can choose from a number of themes Yomu has listed for every episode so that different people would have very different approach to the anime. It’s a pretty awesome idea!

I was a bit hesitant to join this collab but decided to do it anyway because what could happen? I wanted to try and be a bit critical and analytical than I usually am so watching an anime with a very specific theme is one way to do it. Yomu’s collaboration projects gives me the opportunity for me to try. Thank you for starting this project, Yomu! Also, you are still very welcomed to be involved in this collab.

Well then, let’s begin.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War First Impressions

Brain War 6.png

The awaited anime of the season finally aired. This anime is basically about two people named Kaguya and Miyuki liking each other but don’t want to confess or even admit their feelings because of their own ego. To them, whoever confesses or even implies a confession is the loser between the couple. So they execute their elaborated plans to lure the other person to accidentally imply a confession. It’s a battle of brains with a comedic twist to it.

Why is it Kuroko no Basket and not Kagami no Basket?

kuroko ignite pass

When I first watched this anime, I always wondered why the title is Kuroko no Basket instead of Kagami no Basket or any other character names in the anime. This is because Kagami is always in the spotlight. He’s the character that is improving and evolving every single match whereas Kuroko is just there to either relay information about the Generation of Miracles or to enhance Kagami’s ability even more. Kuroko really doesn’t look like the main character in the anime. So I find it quite weird for the title to be his name instead of the more prominent and influenced Kagami.

I got the answer now though. The answer is this anime really is about Kuroko. The overarching plot is about him improving and realizing his flaws ever so slowly that it took almost two seasons before he basically fully develops. All the other characters, while having their own arc, is not as important as Kuroko’s arc.

Impressions: Irozuku Sekai no Ashita Kara Episode 12

Hitomi and Yuito.png

This episode starts by continuing the relationship between Hitomi and Yuito as well as Hitomi’s eventual departure.

Out of all Hitomi’s desperation and depression, she at least has Yuito as her source of happiness. However, that source of happiness is going to disappear very soon so she’s frustrated by that fact. She thinks it’s better to not have met Yuito so she won’t have any of these confusing feelings. However, Yuito manages to convince her otherwise and thus indirectly making her take a step forward in facing the harsh truth of having to leave him and her friends. That step forward is well, to have the most fun with everyone, particularly with Yuito while she can. She’s basically facing her problem directly again instead of running away. She realizes that it’s no use wandering in the dark all the time. Her friends are always helping her so that’s the least she can do.

Day 10 – Chihaya’s First Match Against The Queen of Karuta

Chihaya VS Shionobu 5

Anime: Chihayafuru

All Karuta matches in Chihayafuru is good and intense but my favourite is the first battle between Chihaya and Shinobu. In other matches, Chihaya’s the centre of attention whether or not she wins but in this match, Shinobu takes the spotlight effortlessly.

Shinobu’s first swing of the match pretty much sets the bar not only for the rest of the match but for the rest of the anime. This first swing lets everybody knows that she’s one syllable faster than an average Class A player and that her accuracy is unfathomable. The rest of the match shows how superior and unchallenged she is by Chihaya. Our main character almost can’t do anything at all. The match is completely one sided but that’s what makes the game very enjoyable.
