Portal is a Very Creepy Game

Portal Poster

This time it’s going to be a little bit different because I’m going to talk about a video game I recently played. I think this will be the only occasion where I’ll talk about video game so don’t worry, after this I’ll stick back to my anime format.

Now I’m not a gamer, obviously. I don’t play that much video games. But of course every now and then I’ll play some games to fill in my leisure time and I mostly play the more popular ones. You know, the normal first person shooter games like the Call of Duty and Crysis series, the Command and Conquer genre like the Red Alert series and Generals and sometimes a little bit of The Sims or City Skyline. I’m just a guy who sometimes play games… like normal people. But I do want to share my thoughts and experience of this one particular game that I really like called Portal.

Joshiraku: Their Clothes and Their Hairstyles

Joshiraku.jpg

Joshiraku is a very funny show. Their first joke is a freaking 4th wall breaker and that actually caught me off guard. Since it is an adaptation of a very dialogue heavy manga, the characters question why someone would want adapt it as an anime in the first place. That particular moment was what made me decide to continue watching this anime until the end. I highly recommend anyone who is into comedy anime to give this a try. The jokes can get a little random and a bit too Japanese at times, meaning that only Japanese people would mostly understand the jokes but even with that, I still think it’s a great comedy anime.

Well I’m not here to review the anime wholly. Rather, I want to point out one particular aspect of the anime which I find very interesting. You see, this anime usually sets in the dressing room of the girl’s working place in a comedy theater. However, every episode, there is a section where the characters go outside of their dressing room and into the city, like going out to the mall or to the amusement park or the hot spring.

Kiss Him, Not Me: Kae’s Obsession Towards Yaoi

Kiss Him Not Me 4.png

This series is about a horizontally challenged girl who is way too obsessed with the otaku culture especially yaoi. One day, her favourite character of an anime died which led her to a state of depression. She doesn’t go out of her room for a week and of course also doesn’t eat. After a week, she finally went out of her room and after she looks herself in the mirror, she finds out that she’s now HOT AS HELL. And so, that’s when the story starts.

I was actually attracted to this series when I heard that the main character transforms her appearance drastically because of her depression. I find it funny (I’m so sorry for those who are genuinely depressed). Now this series is mostly comedic and it relies almost entirely on the fact that Kae, the main character is obsessed with yaoi.

Just Because: My Favourite Ship Sunk

Just because 2

I’m gonna throw spoilers a little while later. But yes, my favourite ship in this anime sunk, which is very frustrating. Before I go any further, I’m just gonna tell you how I feel about this anime as a whole. I actually enjoyed it. A lot. However, looking back at it after some time finishing it, I realized that there aren’t many things that I like about this anime. I am a romance sucker so I like it for the basic reason that it’s a romance anime. I also like it because of its melodramatic atmosphere and the last reason I like about this anime is Komiya. Other than that, I don’t really like other ships that are available and I don’t particularly like all the other characters. They’re all very gloomy and always have a negative vibe. Because of this, I think the only reason I watch this anime is because of Komiya. She more or less single handedly lifts this anime up, in my opinion. I don’t really recommend anyone to watch this anime really but if you’re a romance sucker, you might find something you’d enjoy out of this anime.

*With that out of the way, let’s get to the spoilers and my sunk favourite ship*

Chuunibyou and My Dark Past

Chuunibyou poses

I’m going to be completely vulnerable here… I have a very embarrassing belief about myself in the past but I’m going to share it anyway because I think it’s worth sharing, and it might be funny…??

Yes I had a chuunibyou phase. Well at least according to what anime described it, I’m pretty sure I was one of the victims. If you don’t know what chuunibyou is, it’s a state when you have delusional beliefs of yourself and usually think you’re some kind of a superhero. Now I don’t remember much about my childhood and I certainly don’t remember much about what I believe I was but there’s one thing that sticks to me until now. And whenever I think about it, I can only feel like punching myself in the freaking stomach.

Why Are All Anime Characters So Fragile??

Anime Sick

I think everyone notices this thing. Why do all anime characters get sick so easily? I feel so frustrated whenever I think about it. Seriously, why? They will have other characters, usually their mother or sister telling the main character “not to be out for too long or you’ll catch cold”. The classic foreshadowing of getting a fever. The thing is, they catch cold impossibly easily! I’m pretty sure they could catch cold by literally everything.

Soaked in water? FEVER!

Sleeping without blanket? FEVER!

Ran in a rain for 10 seconds? FEVER!

Had a brisk walk at the backyard? FEVER!

Opened the refrigerator? FEVER!

Only wearing towels for the rest of the night after bathing…. NO FEVER BECAUSE FAN SERVICE!

Another thing that bothered me is why do all anime characters collapse when they supposedly just have normal fever? Or is it just me? Does everyone experience this? The character would be soaked in water the night before and come to school like normal the next day only to collapse during lunch break out of convenience. I mean, fainting is one of the worst thing to happen to anyone and it’s an indication that their health is seriously servere, they need to be sent to the hospital as soon as possible, but where do they usually send them? To the infirmary. Then it is revealed that the character only has normal fever… because of being soaked in water…

Lastly, why do all the other characters act like the person who got sick will die really really soon?? Anime rule #371: If one character has a fever, all the other characters will act like the character with a fever will die. So they’ll visit him/her, bring some flowers, drink some booze, have a party all night long!!!…. And then the character gets better the next day like nothing happened.

I’m sure there are reasons. As far as I’m concerned, I enjoy watching them despite being illogical. Welp, maybe BECAUSE it’s illogical, I enjoy watching them.

Seriously though, if you know the reasons, please tell me.

Me and Japanese Honorifics

Japanese Honorifics 4

I always wonder, if I live in Japan and abide by the their honorifics rules, how would I call people? To know the answer, we first need to know the basic of honorific rules in Japan. We’ll go through the most common honorifics. This might turn into a ramble about myself and my life. Because it will. Let’s just get to it.

The most basic and common honorific that people use is “san”. It can be applied to almost everyone. It shows distance if two people use “san” to call each other. People usually start calling people with “san” when they first know each other but after they know the person more and become closer, they’ll start to use other honorific like “kun” or “chan” or drop the honorific altogether.

How Kuroki Tomoko Evolves

Tomoko Kuroki

‘It’s Not My Fault I’m Not Popular’ is a really fun series. It’s also very cringey and depressing at the same time but I love it nonetheless. The reason is quite simple, it’s very relatable to me. As a shy and introverted person who is struggling with social anxiety, I can see a lot of myself in the main character, Kuroki Tomoko. I don’t try as hard as her to be popular or sociable, of course but I can see myself fail as miserably as her if I tried. So yea, none of the things Tomoko experiences are experienced by me (but maybe only in my mind).

I honestly think Tomoko has evolved from the the anime, the manga after the anime and the later part of the manga. Her personality, although very slightly, changes. How others see her also changes, how she sees other people changes and even the number of people she hangs out with increase over time.

I divide the change into three different stages.

I’ve Read Quite a Few Manga Lately

Reading Manga.jpg

As mentioned in the title, yes I’ve read a lot of manga lately. At least a lot for me. I actually don’t read manga that much because I’m a really slow reader. In fact, I actually don’t really need manga at all (aside from some shoujo manga that that are translated into my local language). I only watch anime for the most part. However recently I somehow read a considerable number of manga because…. I don’t have a choice.

Okay so, I actually started my internship program under my college two months ago and my workplace is quite far from my house. It’s a two hours train ride going to work and another two hours going home from work. So basically I spend around 4 hours every day on the train… standing up (because I’m young so of course they’ll be other older people who need the seats more than I do). I don’t wanna waste my time daydreaming on the train as it’ll be boring real quick so I decided to read manga on the train. Well sometimes I write but most of the time, I read manga. I definitely don’t scroll social media though. For some reason, it’s the least interesting thing to do on the train.

Conclusion of Anime and Its Genres

eromanga

This is the wrap up of my genre posts. From my previous posts, it’s very obvious that I like a light-hearted genre more than a dark and depressing genre. Especially now that I’m in my final semester of college where there are many things to do but I have no idea how to do them. At all. But I’m expected to do great at them… God just let this end quick!

As you can see from my previous posts, I generalize the genre to make it easier for me to differentiate. I usually see romance as something very related to drama so I lump those two together. Granted there are romantic comedy so it’s categorized as comedy.
