One Outs Review

one outs 4

Synopsis

Tokuchi Toua is a master gambler who plays a simplified version of baseball called ‘one outs’. The rule of one outs is very simple, there is one pitcher and one batter. If the ball strikes three times, the pitcher wins but if the ball goes out of the infield, the batter wins. He is the unbeatable one outs player in the Okinawa area until one day, he is (kinda) defeated by a professional veteran batter named Kojima Hiromichi. He is persuaded by Kojima to join his team, the Lycoans baseball club and be a professional baseball player. He accepts it.

He then meets the team owner and negotiates a contract that has a ridiculously great disadvantage to his side; for every out he records, he will earn 5 million yen but for every run scored against him, he has to pay 50 million yen to the owner.

Review

I’ve heard people say that this anime has many similarities with Death Note because of the mind games. Since they said it was similar to Death Note which is one of my favourite anime series, I thought to give this anime a try. And oh boy did I enjoy the hell out of this anime.

anime-fireworks

That’s right, this blog is now one year old WOHOOO!!!! YEEEAAHHHH!!!! And that’s about it.

Since this blog’s one year anniversary is the end of the year, I thought to share my thoughts on very few anime that came out this year that I actually watched. I’ve mentioned this a few times before, I don’t watch that much anime as many other anime fan do. So these are the only titles this year that I got around to watch.

Nichijou Review

Arm_wrestling_ep3.png

Synopsis

The anime is about the everyday normal lives of two main group of characters. The first one is Yukko, a highschool girl and her two best friends Mio and Mai. The second is Nano, a teenage robot invented by an 8 year old girl named Hakase Shinonome who also invented a scarf that can make animals talk. Well, that’s not normal at all but whatever.

Review

I stumbled upon a video about Yukko saying ‘selamat pagi’ and it intrigued me. Though I didn’t decide to watch it right after. A few months after, I watched a couple of videos on YouTube regarding Nichijou and found it super funny so I thought I really should just watch the entire series. That’s how I got into this anime.

Nagi no Asukara Review

Nagi no asukara

Synopsis

Four middle schoolers Hikari, Chisaki, Manaka and Kaname have to move to a new school on the surface after their school is closed due to low number of students. Being sea dwellers, they find it a bit hard to accommodate and comfort themselves in their new school as both the sea dwellers and the surface dwellers have prejudice attitude towards each other.

The first surface dwellers to actually become friends with the sea dwellers is Tsumugu but this actually only makes their relationship much more complicated.

Review

I watched a pretty similar anime called Anonatsu de Matteru/Waiting in The Summer and thought that the love triangles in that anime is not enough. And then I watched this anime, Nagi no Asukara and thought “this is exactly what I was looking for all this while!!! All the very deliberately convoluted love triangles, this anime is perfect!!!” Don’t get me wrong, I really like Anonatsu but I think I might like it more if the love triangles are more complicated and I think that the ending is not as satisfying.

Daily Lives Of Highschool Boys Review

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys

Synopsis

This anime is about Highschool Boys doing their normal boring everyday routine. They chit chat about trivial things such as girls, skirts and panties (of course). They play pranks and talk crap about each other. Yup, normal highchool boys.

Review

Now this anime is hilarious. It’s one of the best comedy I’ve seen so far. It doesn’t have a particular plot or a vast number of unique characters but the way the anime delivers its comedy is top notch, using the correct timing for all the punchlines. All the jokes are very random. The jokes are conveyed in shorts skits before the punchlines hit you and sometimes hit you real hard. Only some rare occasion did the joke miss. The setting is the same either going to school, going home from school, being at school or being in a friend’s house but the scenarios are different.

Is Turning off Your Brain The Only Way To Enjoy Anime Fully?

Charlotte Yuu

I was just having a chat about Charlotte with a friend of mine when he said he really liked Charlotte, even its last episode. I was kinda shocked to know that. I don’t think it’s good especially the last episode so I tried to express my point of view by saying that the last episode is hilariously ridiculous and doesn’t make much sense. Then, he answered me with “don’t ask how the Yuu (the main character)’s brother found him at the very right moment. Don’t ask why Yuu didn’t heal himself to travel back through time and save everyone. Don’t ask how he travels around the world or how he can get reception in the middle of the dessert. Don’t ask anything! Just enjoy the show without asking so many questions.” This little conversation triggered me, is turning off our brain the best way to enjoy anime?? Because I think that’s what he basically meant.

SKET Dance Review

Sket-Dance-sket-dance-33166932-1280-720

Synopsis

Bossun, Himeko and Switch (all of them are nicknames) are the members of a school support club called SKET Dance where they help and solve other people’s problems. The club has poor reputation at first and isn’t widely accepted. Many students call them as handymen instead of a club that actually helps people. The story revolves around these trio and the interesting people who request them for help.

Review

As in the synopsis, the anime just centres around these three main characters doing odd jobs and help students as well as staffs in school. It may sound boring and pretty generic but I tell you, it’s really not most of the time. While the anime usually focuses on the comedy side, it also has some very well conveyed and touching drama which will make you care deeply for the three main characters. For me, this anime has a really great balance between comedy and drama.
